THE RUMOUR
PRESENTED BY TOM MILLETT
FROM THE MORGAN HOTEL IN TEMPLE BAR, DUBLIN
The Rumour were formed in the summer of 2008 after the break up of a previous band Joe and Cillian had been a part of. The Rumour was originally an acoustic duo writing simple yet thoughtful songs. This method of songwriting formed the foundations for which the bands sound would be based around. Simple, catchy music with reflective lyrics.

Joe and Cillian continued for a year writing music, recording some of these and uploading them on YouTube to a good response. Seeing an opportunity to expand, they decided to look for new members. The first came in the form of MD (Michael-David). He added a unique dimension to the band with soft and rhythmic piano and, later on, catchy synthesizer riffs. After countless difficulties in finding the right drummer, the ever reliable Jordan was coaxed into joining and thus completing The Rumour.

During the year length period between MD joining and Jordan being recruited, the three lads played some gigs and developed as a band musically. Some of the gigs were as low a profile as the lads would care to remember but others were as high as they've come to play so far. The highlight of these was their support slot to Irish success story, The Blizzards. After this gig the band decided to put more commitment towards writing and gigging.

With a small but solid fan base behind them they took the next, in their eyes, in spreading The Rumour. They performed an original, titled Elegantly Wasted, on the award winning and band launching Balcony TV. Its streaming on YouTube was a featured video on the site with many new fans approving greatly of the song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PF8laEkdZrY

In the months that followed, the band took their time so as not to rush anything but after a few months decided to go into the studio to record Elegantly Wasted and another of their originals, Chivalry (Is Dead). These tracks were initially to be recorded as a debut EP that would be sold at gigs. However, after taking advice from Michael McKernan, who had previously released a charted single, the group choose to release Elegantly Wasted as a single available for download on iTunes. Chivalry (Is Dead) would be the B-Side to this single.

Michael McKernan was officially appointed band manager at this point. In the months following this appointment the band would become bigger than ever expected. To this day Michael remains as the driving force behind The Rumour and in their first interview in Hot Press the band stated their best career move was having Michael as their manager.

1,000 copies were printed of the physical single and it was released on 20th August 2010 on iTunes. Smashing expectations, the single reached #26 on the Irish iTunes store charts and #2 on the iTunes Rock charts. This prompted many in the Irish music scene to stand up and take notice and Elegantly Wasted was reviewed in Hot Press;
"I've always felt a sneaky pang of respect for any band with the gall to incorporate their own name into their lyrics (Tokyo Police Club, Wilco, MC Hammer etc. etc.) and it seems with The Rumour, I've struck gold again. 'Elegantly Wasted' is a happily theatrical dose of rockabilly from the Dublin outfit, and boasts a chorus that'll stay with you for days."

Around the time of release, the single was well promoted with headline gigs around the capital. Whelans was first on the bill and the lads were delighted to play one their personally favorite venues. Over the next month gigs in venues such as the brand new Captains Live Blanchardstown, The Hard Rock Café Dublin and a slot on Arthurs Day were played.

The result of these gigs going well and the bands fan base growing hugely, the decision was made to continue momentum and record their debut album. During their interview on Dublin's Radio Nova, the plans to record the album were announced (amongst other things). After this, having been working for 3 months constantly, the band took a month off for a creative period with the intention of having decided the material that would be used on the album.

The Rumour are currently working on the album in Trend Studios which is provisionally due to be be released in 2011...

Tokyo Police Club took its first baby steps toward finding that voice with its formation in 2005. The band was off and running the following year, releasing the debut EP A Lesson In Crime to instant and universal acclaim. One more EP (Smith), a digital-only single ("Your English Is Good") and a few world tours later, Tokyo Police Club's first full length album, Elephant Shell was released in April 2008. Elephant Shell's release was preceded by multiple sold out shows in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Toronto, and followed by appearances on The Late Show With David Letterman, The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson and, bizarrely enough, Desperate Housewives. Critical response to the full length was even more enthusiastic and diverse, with the likes of GQ ("Strokes-caliber catchiness"), Elle ("a smart, furiously played sugar-rush debut"), Rolling Stone ("poised to become the biggest Canadian export since Molson") and more giving thumbs up. The guys circled the globe in support of Elephant Shell for approximately a year and a half, finally coming off the road in August of 2009.

All of which brings us to Tokyo Police Club unveiling Champ to ears and eyes the world over, as the band embarks on a tour as special guests of Passion Pit that will take them through the end of June. Barely hours after that tour concludes, the boys will kick off a headlining tour that will find them headlining through the summer, combining Champ material with the numerous fan favorites in their live set. "There's really not one thing to sum it up," says Monks of the record. "Musically we didn't follow any kind of framework or preferred kind of song. Any direction we went is a direction that just felt fun.

An Amos The Transparent show can include multiple part a cappella harmonies, handclaps, all out guitar rock and raucous fan sing-a-longs...and that's the beauty of them.

The lush arrangements and subtle textures on their debut album "Everything I've Forgotten To Forget" and newest EP "My, What Big Teeth You Have...", can be easily be stripped down acoustically or turned up to ten in a live setting.

The Ottawa-based band has quickly become darlings on the Canadian scene racking up accolades from media outlets like XM Radio's The Verge and Billboard Magazine. Amos The Transparent have also scored key slots in major festivals like Canadian Music Week, SXSW, Ottawa Bluesfest, Halifax Pop Explosion, NXNE and Brisbane Australia's BIGSOUND as well as supported bands such as Tokyo Police Club, Besnard Lakes, The Dears, Hollerado and Jeff Beck.

2009/2010 has been a breakthrough year for the band seeing them win financial support from local radio station Live 88.5 FM and being named a finalist for Artist of the Year in XM Radio's Verge Music Awards alongside notable Canadian artists Joel Plaskett, Alexisonfire and Dan Mangan. "My What Big Teeth You Have..." was added to over 200 US College radio stations, was licenced to 12 network television shows and was recently featured on MTV's The Real World.

Founded by songwriter Jonathan Chandler and Chris Wilson, the band includes long standing members Mark Hyne, James Nicol and Dan Hay.

Always full of surprises, once you have witnessed Amos The Transparent live, it is not hard to understand why their shows are now becoming legendary.
