The Real Face of Jesus on HISTORY 3/30
Airs Tuesday March 30th at 9/8c on HISTORY. Science and religion join together, bringing cutting-edge computer technology to an ancient stretch of fabric, and creating a living, moving 3D image of the man many believe to be Jesus Christ. HISTORY's THE REAL FACE OF JESUS? presents something very different: an attempt to reveal the image embedded in the fibers of the fabric, to turn the faint, unfocused, two-dimensional image into a living, moving, 3D creation ? if they are successful, this may be the most accurate depiction ever made of the man many believe to be Jesus Christ. Set in World War 2, Sniper Elite V2 is a third person shooter that puts you in the role of an American sharpshooter whose mission is to stop a diabolical plot involving German V2 rockets. This the second game in the series which is developed by Rebellion and published by 505 games. Sniper Elite V2 features grisly bullet time cut scenes that show players exactly what a high velocity round will do to the human skeleton. Yikes, let's see if this game misses the mark or scores a direct hit.

Alright, let's just start at the beginning, the x-ray vision bone shattering kill cams. Their awesome and it's not just bones getting shattered either. Ouch. These cut scenes are really the defining feature of the game and are very rewarding to watch. When you put a round through the eyeball of that sniper that's been pestering you, it feels really really good. Now some of you may be thinking that seeing these gets old after a while. Personally, I didn't get tired of it, but if you do feel it's too repetitive or if you're a bit squeamish in the presence of exploding vital organs, you can always turn down the bullet cam frequency.

In fact the graphics are all around awesome in this game, especially for the PC version. There's an incredible amount of detail put into the constantly shelled cities. When I heard the game was $50 instead of $60 I naturally assumed there would be a drop in graphics quality, but I'm glad to see that's not the case.

Let's talk about gameplay for a second. The emphasis on stealth was a major plus. Sneaking around behind enemy lines, firing only when a loud noise covered your shot, setting up traps in case a patrolling enemy happened upon your sniping roost. It was all awesome. The tools you have at your disposal are really great for setting up entertaining kills. Hey guys, you'd better go investigate that rock. And your dead. Hilarious. The authentic weapons and equipment you get, do a great job of making you feel immersed in the game.

I do have one minor gripe though and it's the stealth kills. After watching the incredibly detailed kill cams, I was a little let down to discover that the animation for a stealth kill was a little bit bland. Something to work on in the next game maybe.

The game wasn't all stealth though, Sniper Elite does a good job of mixing things up and forcing the protagonist to fight wave after wave of Nazis and Soviets who will come at you with machine guns, tanks and their own snipers. You'll have to use every trick in your sniper playbook to survive these assaults, personally I like wounding an enemy and then killing the first person to try to remove them from the battlefield. Yes I'm a horrible person.

Sniper V2 has a multiplayer, but it's definitely not the main draw of the game. If you really like doing nothing for long periods of time, hoping to see the faint glimmer of an enemy's scope, you may enjoy this, but really it wasn't for me. Also, the spawn system in the multiplayer was pretty broken. There were multiple occasions where I would pop up directly behind my enemies which was entertaining for me, but probably pissed them off a bunch.

Alright, so the multiplayer wasn't my favorite, but this isn't really a multiplayer game and the single player is well worth the $50 price tag. Sniper Elite V2, is beautiful, gruesome, and hard to stop playing.
The game gives you a feeling of immersion well beyond most shooters and allows the player to truly sink into the role of a covert sniper. This is the most fun I've had head shotting Nazis in a long time. I give
Sniper Elite V2 a 9 out of 10.
