Life of Whitney Houston
Life of Whitney Houston - as part of the celebrities series by GeoBeats.

Before sadly passing away at the young age of 48 on February 11, 2012, she made a mark on pop music that will be remembered for a long time.

Born in Newark, New Jersey to John Russell Houston Jr. and Cissy Houston, she was the youngest of 3 children. Her early influences included her godmother Aretha Franklin. Whitney started performing at the age of 11 in a gospel choir.

Before climbing to worldwide fame for her singing, she was a fashion model and one of the first colored women to appear on the cover of Seventeen magazine.

Her first big hit came in 1985 with the release of "hold me", a duet she did with Teddy Pendergrass.

Over the course of her lifetime, Houston won over 400 awards including 6 Grammies, 2 Emmys, and 30 Billboard Music awards. Guinness Book of World Records lists her as the most awarded female artist of all times.

Her powerful and majestic voice had led to nearly 175 million albums being sold. She has inspired countless young artists and her voice will continue to inspire future generations.

Houston's diverse talent was also evident in Hollywood with her acting roles in movies like "The Bodyguard" and "Waiting to Exhale".

While she struggled with drug use and personal relationships in her later years, Whitney Houston will be remembered as one of the greatest pop icons of our time.

EMMA DEIGMAN
BALCONYTV LONDON 28/03/2009
PRESENTED BY LAYLA ANNA-LEE

Born in Buckinghamshire, now based in London, Deigman was five when, at a panto in Wycombe with her mother, she ran down the aisle and tried to clamber on stage. She has hardly been off a stage since.

There was a stint at the National Theatre, several TV series (including one in which her character helped take a real boy band hostage) and, aged 13, the feature film Last Orders with Bob Hoskins and Michael Caine.

By 15, Deigman was writing songs and sending off demos, although it was when she went to boarding school for sixth form that she knew her heart lay in music.

Some of Emmas album was co-written with Eliot Kennedy, to whom Deigman sent a demo almost two years ago.

For a year, Deigman commuted to Sheffield for writing sessions and to record with a huge band of veteran musicians in Kennedy's studio. Among the album's highlights are boogie piano-driven, It Was You, on which Deigman sings about 'a loveable S.O.B.' and missing her Jimmy Choo shoes, an inspired reworking of Teddy Pendergrass' Love TKO and sensual, brass-backed ballad Heart And Soul.

Recently, Deigman has been playing live with her own band after a show at West London's Troubadour, they immediately offered her a residency. In November, she shared a stage with Kenny Thomas and in December, played to a crowd of two and a half thousand at London's City Hall, alongside Peter Kay and BryanAdams.

"IT WAS YOU" is to be released on the 30th March available from all well known download sites.
