ClevverMusic Weekly Wrap Up: Gaga Performing VMAs, Jay-Z & Katy Perry Rule Charts

I'm breaking down the top music stories of the week, including the deadly stage collapse, Deets on the VMA tributes, and Katy Perry and Beyonce getting comparisons to the King of Pop. Beginning with the tragic story at the Indiana State Fair, five people died after the stage collapsed at the event last weekend before the Sugarland Show. A memorial was held the next day for the lives lost, and an internal investigation has been launched. Speaking of concerts, Beyonce came under fire this week after Perez Hilton claimed she used a teleprompter during her NYC shows this week to remember her lines. No statement has been issued by Bey's camp, but many fans have responded negatively to it/ Bey's hubby Jay Z on the other hand is having a stellar week. He was added to the iheartradio fest in september, and his watch the throne album broke itunes records for the most downloads in one week, as well as a number 1 spot on the Billboard 200. He did give the wifey quite the compliment however, calling Beyonce the second coming of Michael Jackson, and calling her work ethic unprecedented. In other MJ comparisons, Katy Perry tied the King of Pop with the most singles off of one album in Billboard history. Hers for Teenage Dream, His for Bad. And finally, the VMAs are shaping up to be pretty rad! Gaga announced she's opening the show with a performance. And we also hear she's gonna be a part of a Britney Spears tribute, along with Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Janet Jackson, Nicki Minaj, Kesha and Katy Perry. There have also been whispers about an Amy winehouse tribute during the show, but nothing official has been released from MTV. So those are your weekly top stories! The Nashville show rocked out and awarded some familiar favorites for the 2011 event, including victories for Blake Shelton for Male Video and Best Web Vid as well as Miranda Lambert for Female Vid, Lady Antebellum for Group Video and Sugarland for Duo Video. Some other big wins went to Zac Brown Band and Jimmy Buffett for CMT Performance of the Year, The Band Perry for USA Weekend Breakthrough Video and the Best Director went to Trey Fanjoy. The major win of the evening went to Taylor Swift -- Her music vid for Mine won the Best Video of the Year. And then there's Justin Bieber. He took home a CMT Music Award for Best Collab Vid with Rascall Flatss for their song together, That Should Be Me. Of course, this is Justin's first ever county music award and we want to know if you're surprised at all by this win. What's Up With Gaga? - Grammy Nominations, Marry The Night Video

This week was jam-packed with Gaga news, from her Grammy nominations, to her racy Vanity Fair article, and of course her highly anticipated Marry The Night video coming out. Let's get started! The week kicked off with news that Lady Gaga was actually CUT from a big movie?the Muppets movie! She was slated to make her big screen debut in the flick, but the producers were forced to cut a ton of scenes and Gaga's was one of them, along with Katy Perry's! An PSA came out this week featuring Gaga talking to high school students in Toronto about Anti bullying. (clip from PSA) DJ White Shadow did a new interview with MTV talking about Gaga's upcoming tour! He said she's hard at work already prepping for it, and it will kick off in 2012. He also mentioned that Gaga is writing new songs for her next album already! Can you say workaholic? Gaga did her own interview that came out this week with the famed Vanity Fair, and the part everyone is talking about is her comments about men. She said quote, I date creative people. And I think that what intimidates them is not my purse; it's my mind." Truth!!! A year-end list surfaced this week from Bing, naming Gaga one of the most searched artists this year at number 5. She was also named one of the most searched people this year too, but was beat out by the Biebs! Gaga rocked the Grammy nominations concert this week, performing Marry the Night as well as a special version of You and I with Sugarland. She was also nominated for three nominations this year. The show airs Sunday February 12th. And finally! The highly anticipated Marry The Night video came out?all 14 minutes of it! Gaga told E! News that the vid was a portrait of quote "one of the worst days in my life" which was when she was dropped from her record label. And that is the world according to Gaga!
