Locals fear return of Taliban
There are just a few months left before NATO forces start their phased withdrawal from Afghanistan - and begin transfering power back to the national army.

But some Afghans in the country's north east are worried that the handover will allow the Taliban to return.

Libya fears boom over land mines
There is growing concern in Libya about munitions left behind by military factions following months of conflict between Gaddafi's forces and rebels.

Safety teams inspecting the aftermath of battle zones have found an alarming number of unexploded rockets and mines around the eastern city of Ajdabiya and are trying to dispose all of them.

NATO pilots face high risks in Libya
For the first time, Al Jazeera has filmed NATO helicopters operating in Libya.

There a significant threat to every aircraft landing in Libya, a danger which became more apparent when surface to air missiles and launchers were found recently in the hands of a pro-Gaddafi cell hiding in the rebel-held city of Benghazi.

Battle for Libya: Misurata residents celebrate ICC warrants
Libyans living in rebel-held Misurata have taken to the streets to celebrate the issuing of arrest warrants for Muammar Gaddafi, his son and his spy chief.

Judges at the International Criminal Court in the Netherlands say they have grounds to believe Gaddafi has committed crimes against humanity.

Protecting Afghanistan's election
Afghanistan is voting for a new parliament against a backdrop of heavy security following Taliban threats to derail the election.

Afghan vote-rigging videos emerge
The integrity of Afghanistan's recent parliamentary election has been plunged into fresh doubt with the emergence of amatuer videos that appear to show police officers tasked with stopping fraud allowing vote-rigging to occur.

The videos, obtained by Al Jazeera, cannot be independently verified but appear to show Afghan police involvement in electoral fraud, dealing a blow to official claims that any dishonesty that occurred was the work of independent fraudstars and was not carried out on a massive scale.

Afghan police set to take over security
Afghanistan's army and police force are getting ready to take over security responsibilities from international forces. President Hamid Karzai is due to announce the first districts and provinces to do so in the coming days.

But with the high rates of desertion among the country's security forces, there are doubts over whether the homegrown recruits are up to the job.

Ajdabiya bears the brunt of fighting
The fighting has been continuing around Ajdabiya in the eastern part of Libya.

Rebels said they have now re-taken control of the area, but it has come at a heavy price as many lives were lost in the city that has borne the brunt of the constantly shifting frontlines.
