June 4, 1976: four young men from Manchester visit a Sex Pistols concert. Deeply impressed, they form the group Joy Division and go on to write music history. Four years later lead singer Ian Curtis commits suicide and the band falls into a deep crisis. Eventually remaining band members successfully reinvent themselves as New Order.
JOY DIVISION tells in never before seen live recordings, personal photographs and rediscovered audio tapes the story of a band whose influence remains unbroken even 30 years since their founding. Interviewees include band members Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook and Stephen Morris and label boss Tony Wilson, renowned photographer and director Anton Corbijn, Curtis's beloved Annik Honoré and many others.
