Happy Days DVD trailer©ParamountHomeEntertainment
News ! Yeahhhhhh ! (Avec l'autorisation de Paramount Home Entertainment France).

Producer Ron Howard talks about his new movie 'Cowboys & Aliens', the visual nature of the comic book that sold him on the idea, the possibility that aliens could have visited the old west, the fresh blending of the sci-fi and western genres, the evolution of the material under the tutelage of director Jon Favreau and why viewers will enjoy the movie. Cowboys & Aliens hits theaters on July 29th, 2011. Cast: Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde, Harrison Ford, Noah Ringer, Sam Rockwell, Ana de la Reguera, Clancy Brown, Heavy D, Jon Favreau, Paul Dano, Abigail Spencer, Keith Carradine, Adam Beach 1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger (Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don't welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford). It's a town that lives in fear. But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known. Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he's been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella (Olivia Wilde), he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents-townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors-all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival. Cowboys & Aliens footage courtesy Dreamworks Pictures.

Grand Theft Auto - Trailer
Grand Theft Auto - Fan Made Trailer - You know Gamer, right? That movie with a pasty-faced kid controlling human prisoners in a future game? Well, it turns out that the film almost ended up as a Grand Theft Auto joint. According to a recent interview with co-writer/director Mark Neveldine, We (Neveldine and co-writer Brian Taylor) actually were going to be hired to write GTA. I am sure that was part of it. That was after we wrote and directed Crank, so I got involved with GTA pretty heavily, I didn't grow up with it. Neveldine claims that it was a "rights issue" that caused the silver screen adaptation of GTA to founder. "It was a movie originally directed by Ron Howard ... and because Rockstar Games made a video game, there is some battle of who can use the title ... you can't make it about the game." Back in 2008, Variety alleged that a GTA movie was on the precipice of production when the deal fell through, but we get the feeling that these folks are speaking about something completely different. Starting its new video game blog off with a bang, Variety reports that last spring a Grand Theft Auto movie was almost ready to roll into full production. The story goes that after years of trying, some studio actually navigated the bureaucracy of Take-Two/Rockstar and was ready to start production -- "quite possibly" with Eminem as the star. The reason this even came to be after so many years of stonewalling by GTA's rights holders is that current Take-Two chair, Strauss Zelnick, comes from traditional media at BMG music and 20th Century Fox. Variety goes on to say that the movie was so close to being finalized that its own reporters were prepping stories, with sources at Take-Two saying it was a done deal. At the last moment though, the whole thing fell allegedly apart after the publisher couldn't finalize terms with the studio. Whether it was an issue about money or giving away the movie rights (Rockstar is very protective of its brand) is still an unanswered question. Oh well, we've gotten used to movies based on modern mega-franchise games falling apart.

Ah, spring. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and flocks of beautiful people are pitching up on the red carpet outside a swanky hotel in London. It can only mean one thing: it's time for the Jameson Empire Awards 2012. The big winner of the night was Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, which took home Best Thriller, Best Actor (for Gary Oldman) and Best British Film. The Best Film of the year went to Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, Part Two, which also won Best Director for David Yates, while Olivia Colman took Best Actress for her astonishing turn in Tyrannosaur.

The Awards were voted for by the Empire reader, and it's fair to say that they reflect a wide-ranging taste. Best Comedy went to homegrown British juggernaut The Inbetweeners, while Best Horror went to the deeply disturbing Kill List. The Americans got a look-in for Best Sci-Fi / Fantasy withThor (although even that has a British director in Kenneth Branagh).

Thor's wayward brother Loki, or at least alter-ego Tom Hiddleston, took Best Male Newcomer, while Best Female Newcomer went to Felicity Jones. The Art Of 3D Award went to The Adventures Of Tintin: The Secret Of The Unicorn.

After that, it was on to the special awards for people we just think are awesome. Empire Hero was Michael Fassbender this year; Empire Inspiration went to Ron Howard ("for Apollo 13 alone, he deserves this!" as presenter Chris Hemsworth noted") and this year's Empire Icon was Tim Burton.
The full list of winners is below, and for all the madness and shindiggery of the night, check back later and tomorrow for more pictures and video from the night, and look out for an exclusive report in a future edition of Empire.
