Presented by Jamie Stephens
Produced by The Sprezz (www.thesprezz.com)

WHO: Lucy Kitt
WHY: Listen to her voice, faultless guitar-playing and exceptional songwriting and it will immediately become apparent
WHERE: Canterbury, UK

Lucy is a singer/songwriter from the South East, fast making waves and drawing goosebumps with her raw talent and unique musical style. Evoking the sound of the great female American singer-songwriters of the 60?s and 70's, her music is a beautiful and eclectic mix of folk rock and country blues. She's fast developing a growing fan-base
throughout the UK and beyond with her self-penned acoustic songs and here at Balcony TV London we're big fans.

With musical parents it was inevitable Lucy would develop a natural talent for guitar and love for song. Picking up tips from her blues-guitarist father and folk-singing mother, her songwriting days began at sweet 16 in all-girl grunge-rock band 'Ostara'. As a guitarist and performer on the East London rock circuit, the band quickly became established as well known musicians in their hometown of Romford & Upminster in Essex.

It was moving to Kent for University after the split of 'Ostara' that Lucy's love for acoustic and folk took hold. Lucy naturally began taking inspiration from the likes of Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Sandy Denny and music from her parents influential collection of 70's sounds. Beginning as a solo performer in her first year of university, Lucy soon became a rising star on the Canterbury music scene and has been a respected local talent ever since. Recognition for her songwriting saw her reach the semi finals of the BBC Radio 2 young folk award in 2007.

Beyond the UK, Lucy has fans across Europe and USA; having performed in Sweden and Switzerland, and organised her own mini-tour of North California, Lucy continues to spread her music far and wide. With radio air play in Australia as well as back home, and famous fans from the likes of anti-folk hero Billy Bragg, exposure of Lucy's music is fast catching up her exceptional talent.

ARROW IN THE SKY
http://www.balconytv.com
BALCONYTV DUBLIN 12/06/2009
PRESENTED BY TOM MILLETT
rrow in the Sky shot forth from the ashes of Till the Morning Comes, a popular rock outfit. TTMC parted ways during the summer of 2008, leaving its members disillusioned with the music making business. Many of the members were to be found floating to and fro on the musical waves of cover bands and alt-rock projects. At some point in early September, Shayne (founding member of TTMC) and Conor (off and on bass player) sat down with a couple of acoustic guitars and some Neil Young standards for a bit of a Jim jam. Within an hour or so they had mysteriously moved on to a new composition by Shayne, still in its early stages, entitled When I Awake. A microphone was set up and they recorded the first of many demos for a new group as yet untitled. Neither of these two stalwart musicians foresaw what was to come. That within mere days, fellow TTMC axe slinger, Brian, would be joining them on their new musical adventure. A week or so later with only two songs under their belt and a few Neil Young covers to fall back on, they took to the stage for their first gig. And so Arrow in the Sky was born. Since those hectic early days, the trio have been busy writing, rehearsing, recording and playing shows. Quietly building momentum as they go, with each fan converted spreading the word; Come see Arrow in the Sky If one were to look at the stage prior to an Arrow in the Sky show, one would expect to see at least ten men appear before you. When three men arrive on the stage surrounded by banjos, mandolins, basses, accordions, tin whistles, harmonicas, saxophones, trumpets, keys, various percussive items and of course acoustic guitars, an air of expectancy can be palpably felt in the audience. The audience stares, as if a physical arrow were approaching, not quite knowing where to stand or what to do, merely looking, listening and waiting. And when the music starts up and the voices rise in melodious harmony, the hush of the crowd lets one know that the arrow has hit its target.

CHEER UP CHARLIE DANIELS
http://www.balconytv.com
BROUGHT TO YOU IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE RHYTHM BUILDING at MUSIC ROW in NASHVILLE TENNESSEE and THERECORDSHOPNASHVILLE.COM

Hailed as Nashvilles Most Eclectic Rock Band, Cheer Up Charlie Daniels roared onto the local rock scene in 2008, with robotically-themed stage shows and colorfully outlandish costuming. Frequent rotation at such Nashville hotspots as The Mercy Lounge and Exit/In have dramatically increased Cheer Up Charlie Daniels' rabid fan base.

Their debut album, Live in 79, skillfully weaves outrageous front-man Neil O'Neill's often playful, occasionally naughty, lyricism with Beatles-esque melodies to create a genre-bending auditory adventure. Live in 79 is energetic enough to get even a studiously jaded Nashville audience up and out of their seats.

Other recent accomplishments include their television broadcast premiere on MCA TV 9, winning The Deli's Band of the Month, and their long-awaited debut release via limited edition vinyl. Immensely catchy standout tracks such as "Moving to Malibu" and "Bunsen Burner Baby Blues" aptly illustrate why Mike Grimes of The Basement says, Cheer Up Charlie Daniels is going to own this town.

JEFF MAY
PRESENTED BY TOM MILLET

CHICAGO MAG (07) ): The talented Mr. May is an Australian analog to Ron Sexsmith. May's songs are direct and to the point and highlight his achingly wonderful voice. There are bits here that remind me of Jeff Buckley, Neil Finn and Ronnie Lane, too. This is pretty good company to mentioned in, and May is quite deserving of such lofty praise. The Sexsmith comparison comes through very strongly on "Sad Is Somehow Beautiful". It's just obvious in the gentle, flowing melodies. The song has two primary melodies that compliment each other perfectly. This song radiates tenderness and empathy. May's slightly sandpapery voice is perfect on the loping "Two Hours a Day", which comes closer to Crowded House/Squeeze territory. This song has an instantly memorable chorus, as he sings about a woman who has spent "five long years in a cocktail dress/two hours a day trying to look your best." Let's just say her life hasn't turned out quite the way she would have liked. That track features the drumming of the late Paul Hester of Crowded House, who also provides a strong contribution to the 'rockingest' number on the record, "The Fever". The track contrasts a slinky rhythm with a little burst of floating melodic guitar. While the full band tracks are all terrific, on songs like "You Know It's Over" and "St. Patrick's Eyes", spare accompaniment spotlights May's vocals to great advantage (though on the latter, the band does come in to add a bit of drive). This is a very compelling piece of work.

HELEN BARRADEL (IMPRESS MAGAZINE) Hearing Melbourne songsmith Jeff May's debut album Confessions, made me feel like the ghost of Elliot Smith was in the room, messing with my stereo. The first track, When I Lay Awake At Night, finds the Dublin born May as a dead ringer for the recently departed Smith and felt so disconcerting that I pressed stop and took the album out of the player. As a huge fan of Smith, an artist of such pure originality with a never-to-be-heard-again voice of a generation...well, to have someone else channel him in this way, well I wasn't having any of it. Thank God I changed my mind and hit play again a few days later. The rest of Confessions is truly impressive - 11 tracks that differ so greatly from the opening song that it feels like a completely separate record. Lying somewhere between Jeff Buckley and Ryan Adams' starker work with hints of Smith present, May has a keen eye for poetic detail, melodies with great hooks and a voice like syrup. A wonderful addition to the already exquisite layered textures and beautiful production from Richard Pleasance is that the late, great Paul Hester of Crowded House drums on the record. The outstanding I Have My Judgement is a leaf torn straight from Buckley's book. The stirring I Still Believe In You is a stripped back ballad with striking harmonies - why this track hasn't made high rotation on radio station play lists is an absolute crime. And remarkable tracks like Surrender or She Likes To Sing reveal the nucleus of what Jeff May's music is all about: sad eyed observations, original and inspiring compositions and an unmistakeable ambience that drenches each of the record's 12 songs and establishes May as an artist with a grace and style all of his own. With Buckley and Smith on the other side, the world needed somebody who would not fill their shoes, but follow close behind. In Jeff May, we have found just that. Inspiring.

BRAD PITT LIGHT ORCHESTRA
PRESENTED BY TOM MILLETT
BROUGHT TO YOU FROM THE MORGAN HOTEL IN TEMPLE BAR
Hailing from the west of Ireland, The Brad Pitt Light Orchestra has its origins as a group of college friends drawn together from the intertwining worlds of music, theatre, family.... and IT. After parting ways due to emigration and the like, The Brad Pitt Light Orchestra (BPLO) reformed when two members - Ann and David Blake - featured on The Ray D'Arcy Show's album 'Even Better Than The Real Thing Volume 2' with a haunting version of Hole in The Head by The Sugababes. The BPLO went on to produce two successful EPs, 'Fireside Chat' and 'Small Contradictions'.

With an ever-increasing fan base, the BPLO first caught the attention of both Paul McLoone and Alison Curtis of Today FM with their joyful winter single December. Since then, they have recorded two sessions for The McLoone Show while also enjoying strong airplay on other national radio shows - including those of Ryan Tubridy , Ray D'Arcy, Alison Curtis, Jenny Huston, Tom Dunne, Dave Couse, Dan Hegarty and on many Independent local radio stations as well as on BBC Northern Ireland. The BPLO released their eagerly awaited debut LP 'Lowering the Tone' on August 27 2010.

While the three lead vocalists- Blake siblings Ann, David and James- conjure distinct moods, it is the close sibling harmonies that sit at the heart of the BPLO's sound. Built around that glow is the formidable melodic instrumentation of the group and an irrepressible theatricality. The BPLO's music evokes the grandeur of Arcade Fire, the warmth of Crosby Stills & Nash, the wistfulness of Belle & Sebastian, the melodic sensibility of the Divine Comedy and a whiff of a Tom Waits carnival. Arresting musicality coupled with a dark, wry wit, they produce an unmissable vibrant, life-affirming, live experience. Regular performers at Irish festivals like the Electric Picnic and Flatlake, the BPLO comfortably traverse the literary, theatrical and music worlds.

Ann Blake- Vocals
David Blake- Vocals, Electric Guitar, Acoustic Guitar
James Blake- Vocals, Acoustic Guitar
Stephen Childs- Violin, Viola
Tom Howley- Keyboards
Brian O'Grady- Double Bass, Electric Bass
Jamie O'Neill- Percussion, Mandolin
Nick Carswell- Acoustic Guitar, Vocals, Clarinet, Fisher Price items
Boris Hunka and Diane Daly- Vibes and Violin respectively

The BPLO's influences include Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Goran Bregovic, Keith Jarrett, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, John Banville, John McGahern, Neil Hannon, Tom Zé, Elvis Costello, Paul Durcan, The Frames, The Strokes and Sufjan Stevens. This list of fine artists from varying talent streams may offer an explanation, for some, for the eclectic style of music produced by The Brad Pitt Light Orchestra.

Rush - Subdivisions (alternative clip experience)
Another successful band the group Rush are considered one of the best groups and precursors of progressive rock. The music played in this video is one of the most successful songs of the band titled Subdivisions which was reproduced in the Signals album launched in 1982, before the Moving Pictures in 1981. However this video shows the mix of music Subdvisions with the official video of another Rush hit song titled Roll the Bones released nine years after the album Signals in 1991. In my own opinion that was one the best mix made ??by Rush fan's with time including video and music combining speed scene transitions and a casual theme althought despite showing great difference.

Members: Subdivisions - Signals and Roll the Bones - Roll the Bones

Geddy Lee - Bass, Keyboards, Vocals

Alex Lifeson - Guitar

Neil Peart - Drums

Thomas Wynn & The Believers are "Southern Rock Muscle" - The Orlando Sentinel.
They are a combination of blistering rock and southern soul. This tight six-piece, fiery ensemble has been playing the Orlando original music circuit for the last year and a half and have quickly garnered local celebrity press status and fan buzz. Thomas' spirit-moving vocals are uniquely supported by sister Olivia Wynn's
engaging and captivating voice and presence. Olivia and Thomas stand side by side on stage. Her strong vocal harmonies and response makes the perfect companion to his yearning banshee cries.

Known for their powerful LIVE performances, they have headlined 100+ shows this year alone and have additionally shared the stage with national acts Gov't Mule, Leon Russell, Drive-By Truckers, Leftover Salmon, JJ Grey & Mofro, and Medeski, Martin & Wood, just to name a few. TW&TB personifies rugged, yet uplifting spirited rock, sprinkled with southern soul R&B. As a songwriter, Thomas' tunes are brutally honest and heartfelt. The themes of the band go beyond years of drugs, heartbreaks and hypocrisy to deliver a message of hope. TW&TB radiate a southern charm that is all their own and have quickly become a Florida favorite.

REAX Magazine recently said... "For once, you have a Florida band that is truly Florida. They look like Florida, they sound like Florida - with a touch of Molly Hatchett, The Band, Neil Young, and The Black Crowes. Not fad hipster, not transplant Florida, but Florida Florida." One journalist said, after seeing their show he had a strange urge to gleefully run through the cotton fields sipping on moonshine.

These guys are on the leading edge of creating a new southern rock scene. The sum of the parts is the strongest live shows in the region. Powerful melodies and hooks, grinding jams with soaring guitars and tight drum work, and a front man that can carries the audience to new heights. "You have to book them... I was astounded."
