'The Help' & 'The Artist' Dominate SAG/DGA Awards

The Help and the Artist Dominate! Hey guys thanks so much for tuning back into clevver movies, Im your host Tatiana Carrier with the details on the SAG Awards! Everyone knows that the winners of SAG awards are a good way of seeing who will take home a shiny gold guy...and last night was all about the help and the artist, which we are now thinking will be front runners for the academy awards. The Actor® for a motion picture cast performance went this year to "The Help"...as if we didn't see that one coming! With a solid cast of emma stone, viola davis, Jessica chastian, ocatavis spencer and Bryce dallas hollward, we knew these girls wouldn't go unrecognized. INfact Viola Davis took home th award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role, and he co-star, OCatvia Spencer won for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role! The other big winner of the weekend was The Artist. Jean DeJuardin beat out his fellow Golden Globe winner George Clooney to take home the prize for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role while the film's director, Michel Hazanavicius took home the award for outstanding director of the year the previous night. There has only been six instances ever that the winner of the DGA Award didn't also take home an Oscar for Best Director, so the odds are definitely now in Hazanavicius' favor. Lots of people were disappointed that the artist beat out the descendants, but I was happy to see the silent flick that could, make some noise in Hollywood...its good to switch it up a bit would ya say? You guys can see the complete list of winners by checking out our blog, which we have included a link to in our decription! So do tell, what were you most pleased to see at the sag awards...for me, it was all about the help...Ive been rooting for these girls from the beginning and its nice to see them get recognized for such an incredible film! The Oscars are just a few days away, and ofcourse, we have our Ballot pool predictions, and we want YOU to weigh in! Hey everyone, thanks so much for tuning back into clevver movies, Im your host tatiaana carrier!
.
Now, we did an Oscar prediction show when the noms were announced (cut to that footage), but since then, other award shows have come and gone, giving us a little more insight as to who will take home OSCAR! Here is what we think for each major category!
.
Best Picture: Early on, this was a battle between the two films with the most nominations, Hugo and The Artist. With several wins at other big award shows, we think The Artist is the hands down favorite to take the prize.
.
Leading Actor: This will be one of the toughest races to predict for the evening. It's currently a dead heat between George Clooney's role in The Descendant and Jean Dujardin in The Artist. George Clooney is Hollywood's golden boy, but already has an Oscar for his role in 2006's Syriana, so it's for this reason that we are putting our money on Jean Dujardin to win.
.
Leading Actress: This is another heated battle between Viola Davis in The Help and Meryl Streep in The Iron Lady. One of Meryl Streep's biggest negatives is the fact that she's so well respected. She's been nominated a total of 17 times since 1979 and most people think she has a house filled with statues, despite only actually having two wins with her last being in 1983 for Sophie's Choice. Another negative for her is the fact that she was in a movie that has not been as well received as The Help. We think Meryl will have to wait a little bit longer for her third Oscar as this one will be going to Viola Davis.
.
Supporting Actor: Christopher Plummer will win for Beginners. This seems like a no brainer for us.
Supporting Actress: Not much competition in this category either. The award will most likely go to Octavia Spencer for The Help. Though some believe an upset from the likes of The Artist's Berenice Bejo or Melissa McCarthy for Bridesmaid are possibilities if Octavia's votes get split with her co-star Jessica Chastain, we just don't think that will happen. It will be a good night for the ladies of The Help.
.
Animated Feature: Early on, we predicted a win for one of the smaller nominated films - either A Cat In Paris or Chico & Rita. Though this may still happen, we think Rango has gained some momentum the last few weeks and will take home the top prize.
.
Directing: Despite early support for Martin Scorsese to take home his second Best Director Oscar, Michel Hazanavicius' recent Directors Guild of America Award win places him as the frontrunner to take home the Oscar.
.
Adapted Screenplay: With its recent Writers Guild Award, The Descendants should take home this category as a runner-up prize for losing Best Picture.
.
Original Screenplay: Woody Allen most likely won't be showing up to the awards show, so we'll have to wait and see who accepts the prize, because he's definitely getting the win.
.
So what do you guys think of our picks? You guys can see our full list by checking out our blog and also, make sure you chime in below! You cant have a pool without other ppl sounding off, so leave those comment! Thanks so much for watching, we will see you next time!
