Best Science Fiction Movies: Top 5 Tuesday

Hey everyone thanks so much for tuning back into clevver movies, Im Tatiana Carrier with your top 5 Tuesday! With the release of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace 3D this Friday we countdown the top 5 sci/fi films of all time!
.
Coming in at 5. The Matrix---
The Matrix was just the kick in the pants the sci-fi genre needed. It combined sci-fi, action and introduced the groundbreaking bullet time effect. Though the technology ended up being overused in just about every commercial made since the film's release and two crap-tastic sequels followed, the film was the perfect swan song to the 20th century.
Aliens comes in 4th place---
Though many would probably select Ridley Scott's 'Alien' in the top 5, James Cameron's sequel 'Aliens' was simply, in our opinion, a more entertaining movie. Less horror and more action, the film pits Sigourney Weaver's Ripley against the mother of all aliens as she and a crew of Colonial Marines try to discover what happened to the colonists who have settled the planet where Ripley and the crew of the Nostromo first encountered the aliens.

3rd place goes to The Empire Strikes Back ---- Here's another sequel that trumps the original. Though Star Wars was a huge box office success when released in 1977 and has spawned countless sequels, tv shows, books and video games, The Empire Strikes back is just an all-around better movie. It's questionably one of the greatest sequels ever made. From the battle on Hoth to Luke's inevitable confrontation with Darth Vader, the film gives the original character's real depth and introduces new characters like Yoda, Lando Calrissian and Boba Fett. Plus, how many summer blockbusters these days let the bad guys win?

Coming in a close second, is 2001: A Space Odyssey---- Stanley Kubrick's '2001: A Space Odyssey' is not only considered one of the greatest sci-films of all time, but also one of the greatest films of all time. Period. The film influenced the later works of such pioneers as Steven Spielberg and George Lucas.
.
And finally last but certainly not least, Blade Runner comes in the top spot on our countdown! ---- Blade Runner was a commerical and critical flop when it was first released back in 1982. Surprising considering it stars Harrison Ford during the height of his popularity, with the the film releasing right between Raiders of the Lost Ark and Return of the Jedi. The film finally got the recognition it deserves and became a cult hit with the introduction of the home video market. Though there have been seven versions of the film with significant changes to the storytelling, Ridley Scott's "The Final Cut" was released in 2007 and the director has called the film his most complete and personal film. A sequel is planned with Scott returning to direct.
.
So there ya have it, the top 5 sci fi flicks of all time! Make sure you chime in below and let us know what you thought of our list and if we missed anything! While your at it, make sure you subscribe to clevver movies for more fun filled top 5 Tuesdays! Thanks so much for watching, ill see ya next time!

If you were one of the many who thought that Han shot first...well, George Lucas thinks you may have been confused.
.
Hey movie buffs, Tatiana Carrier here for Clevver Movies. And the internet is a buzz with some Star Wars controversy. With the release of Star Wars Episode 1 being re-released today in 3D, George Lucas is out and about doing interviews promoting the movie. Which takes us to The Hollywood Reporter where he, for the first time, directly comments on the "who shot first" debacle.
.
Here's a very quick recap if you're new to this game. In the 1977 version, it looked like Han shot Greedo first in the cantina. Then in the 1997 special edition re-release, Lucas made it that Greedo shot first and Han retaliated. This has been a huge controversy since then. And now Lucas is saying that he actually cleared up the "confusion" in the special edition version. That's right folks. We were confused. We apparently WANTED Han Solo to be a cold blood killer. But Lucas is very clear in saying that that is not who he is. Now I respect this. He's said that this is what happened. Part of me feels like we should believe him....BUT...I went back to the original footage, and something feels fishy.
.
Here are some things that are worth noting from the original scene that doesn't back up what Lucas is now saying. First of all. It is safe to say that George Lucas was an amazing film maker. So when you break down the shots from the cantina scene they cut to Han's blaster not once BUT TWICE. Building up the tension, of how Han will act in this situation. Never once do we see a close up of Greedo's gun at the table, nothing to build the fear of if Greedo will actually fire. The shot even comes RIGHT after a witty line from Han Solo. All signs point towards Han taking the first shot based solely on the way it was shot. Secondly, in the original version, you don't actually see a shot fired. You hear a blast and when the smoke clears, Greedo drops dead. The key there was that you heard ONE BLAST. If Greedo shot first, you'd hear two shots. One from him, then from Han retaliating. Just like in the 1997 special edition.
.
So again, based on the original footage that George Lucas is saying that I'm confused about, it's REALLY hard to believe that Greedo shot first. Honestly, it just seems like him back peddling, and trying to end all fans complaining about it. But then again...he did create all of this. Maybe we should just believe him without any question and except whatever he says. So how do you guys feel about this? Are you behind Lucas on this or do you still believe that Han shot first? Spoiler alert. We finally know who A is on Pretty Little Liars. Are you ready?? We found out in the season-2 finale titled "unmAsked" that A is MONA!! It might seem that simple, but it's definitely not. So let's start with a little recap action. The episode surrounds a masquerade ball -- the girls look amazing in their dresses -- and the whole mask thing keeps us guessing about some people's identities... including the girl in a black swan themed gown. This person is definitely hanging with a no-longer-blind Jenna and Lucas. But before the big gala, clues including a postcard lead the girls to a creepy motel. No one is around... Except a hooded stranger is spying on them. They figure out that Ali checked in twice there - under Vivianne's name. And we learn via Mona that Ali was watching A. When Spencer realizes this -- fast forward to the gala where there are definitely some romantic moments -- did you see the #EzriaGoesPublic post??, she and Mona rush back to the motel as a duo and go into room-2. It has hundreds of photos of Ali, her personal belongings and more. Then with hints, like a gum wrapper in Ali's diary as Mona offers gum to Spencer and the big reveal, we see that Mona is A. Apparently, it was about revenge to her, as the girls stole away her friend, Hanna. The rest of the girls are able to take a short cut to catch up to them on the road, and after a scuffle, Mona winds up falling off the cliff. But she's still alive, taken to a mental ward where this is the explanation from Dr. Sullivan -- yes, she's back -- about Mona as A: Mona is in a "perpetual state of hyper reality. The adrenaline rush that accompanied her feelings of empowerment and her high level of intelligence fueled Mona's ability to be seemingly all knowing and omnipresent." Then the episode ends with the coroner taking away a dead body and it might just be Maya. Basically, A delivered on the promise that someone would wind up in a body bag if the girls didn't listen to A's orders by midnight. We're left with a visit to Mona from another part of the "we" making up A. The person is wearing red and Mona says that she's done everything the person has asked her to do. And that's the end of "unmAsked." What are your thoughts? Are you happy about A Day? And who else do you think is on the A Team?? Let us know and for more updates just like this one, don't forget to subscribe to our show! I'm Dana Ward, bye for now.

Congrats to Janel Parrish who just became on official series regular on Pretty Little Liars! This is a big deal that comes shortly after A Day when the show revealed that her character Mona is A. That finale apparently generated the most social media buzz in tv history with approximately 1.6-million tweets on A Day as ABC Family's number-1 broadcast ever for women 18 to 34 years old. Bringing it back to season-3 news, we hear from Janel that the storyline will focus more on people's connections, finding out how Mona made things happen and we'll find out who was helping her and why. Also, thanks to a TV Line interview with a show producer, PLL will pick up six months after this season's end and A aka Mona will have been in the mental institute during that time period. We hear there will indeed be a trial for Garrett's link to Alison's murder but it's not confirmed that he's the killer, keep in mind. We'll find out about the evil in Lucas' heart, the sight in Jenna's eyes and we'll figure out who is the Black Swan! The show insider reminded fans that they haven't confirmed that the dead body was Maya for the season-2 finale. Alright so that's definitely a lot to digest for this upcoming season-3 of Pretty Little Liars. Remember to tune in to ABC Family on Tuesday June 5 at 8/7 pm central. I'm Dana Ward saying subscribe to ClevverTV. Bye, guys!

James Cameron is bringing back Titanic and we have the details!

Director James Cameron is bringing his 1997 Best Picture winner Titanic back to theaters with a new 3D digital restoration April 4.

Even though its JUST a reimagining, according to the Hollywood reporter, the filmmaker WAS considering going back and reshooting the drama, after discovering several factual errors regarding how the enormous ship actually sunk. However, in the end, he decided to stick to the original.

Heres what Cameron had to say, "I suppose there was a moment that fleetingly passed through my mind that I could correct the film, and have it actually match what Titanic actually looked like. Then another part of my mind said, 'No. You're going to be a nutter standing on a street corner, babbling away."

He continued, "I didn't change a frame. The ship still sinks at the end. Jack still dies."

I think the fans of the movie would agree with me when I say, its best to stick to the integrity of the original and we are all happy with this news! Are you glad he didn't pull a George Lucas and start changing the film around? Let us know in the comment section below and while youre at it, head over to our subscribe button! Im Tatiana carrier, thanks so much for watching!
