What Makes a Good Survival Horror Game

We reported yesterday that the godfather of the Resident Evil Franchise Shinji Mikami is teaming up with Bethesda and Tango Gameworks to make a new survival horror game. Now I admit, this used to be my favorite genre of game, and Resident evil was everything I wanted in a in a survival horror game. But since the good ol days of RE2, its just lost some of it's edge. For example, resident evil 5 was the furtherst thing from Survival Horror So with that said, I want to take some time to put a list together of what makes a good survival horror game.

First thing on my list is limited resources. And honestly, probably the most important aspect. The opening of Resident Evil 2 was intense because there was a city full of zombies and you had one pistol with 15 bullets. That's it. In the first game I remember walking into new rooms praying that there weren't any zombies because I didn't think I had enough bullets to take everyone on. In games like Silent Hill, you were lucky when you even FOUND a gun. The question needs to constantly be on your mind is will I make it through this next room.

Moving on in our list, The game just needs to be generally scary. Take a note from Silent Hill one or two where everything in that game was just fucked up creepy. At least in games like that you have weapons. Not all the time resources are even needed at all! Look at games like Fatal Frame 2 and Amnesia. No gun, no lead pipe. Nothing. Just you and needing to survive. Amnesia has to be one of the most terrifying games of all time. When some evil creature came into a room all you could do is hide and hope to hell you don't get caught. No real control over the situation. Terrifying. You need a game that when you turn it off to go to sleep, you're still a freaked out.

3rd and finally, sporadic saves. Now this may seem like a small and pointless feature, but if you can't save every five minutes then you're going to be that much more worried every 10 minutes. You'll start to play more cautiously, anxiety may take over and you may run back to the last save just to be sure. Knowing that you can't just run into a room all willy nilly with no replications. It really starts to take you over. Again, going back to the old resident evil games, you had only so many ink ribbons you could use at specific spots on a map to save it. Do you save now? Or do you chance it and save later? Though, I think auto saves are something that gamers today take for granted and they'd actually hate to go back to this style of gameplay.

So, here's what makes a good survival horror game. But really, if you want to do it right, take a look at Dead Space. That was the game that proved you could still make a good survival horror game with today's audience. You had some cool guns, but only so much ammo, no auto saves, and was terrifying as all hell. Hands down. So Shinji Mikami, I look forward to your next game. Just don't let me down like with happened with Resident Evil 5. Don't give fake zombies guns. No.

Only 27, and now officially has been honored with a star--- and well deserved we must say. Scarlett Johansson broke out with Lost In Translation and has been a s star on the rise ever since!
Her major movie credits include, The Prestige, IronMan 2, The Island, We Bought a Zoo and most recently is setting set box office records as Black Widow in The Avengers.
Scar Jo was joined by co-star Clark Gregg from 'The Avengers' in addition to Jeremy Renner who joked about how it was to work with Johasson.... renner said, quote "Working with her was tremendous... ly awful....For six months, she continuously threw me around, beat me, stepped on me and wiped the floor with my dignity and self-respect every day - all with a smile on her face."

Lizard Dons Lab Coat In New 'The Amazing Spider-Man' Trailer and we have the details!
Sony Pictures has released, via iTunes Movie Trailers, the first two official stills of The Lizard (Rhys Ifans) in The Amazing Spider-Man. The two pics look like screenshots from the highly anticipated trailer and we see that the lizard will INDEED be wearing his famous lab coat in at least one scene.
A little backround for those of you who don't know much about this green lil lizzy---- Dr. Curt Connors is a one-armed scientist who tries to use science (nothing good ever came of that!) to regrow his lost limb. The experiment goes horribly wrong, and Connors transforms into a horrible reptile monster.
The Amazing Spiderman opens 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theaters on July 3, the Marc Webb-directed action adventure stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Martin Sheen and Sally Field.

Hip hop lost a legend on Friday, and over the weekend Madonna paid her respects. Hey guys, you're tuned in to ClevverMusic. As you may already know, music pioneer Adam Yauch 'MCA' of the Beastie Boys passed last week due to a battle with cancer.
Madonna paid tribute to Adam via Facebook on Saturday, writing, "The Beastie Boys were one of a kind! And so was Adam! They were all an important part of my musical history and integral to the musical revolution that was happening at the time. I'm very sad to hear about Adam's passing. God bless him and his family."
Madge posted a photo to accompany the sweet message, which shows Madonna in a bra with leopard shorts, running from the Boys as they spray her with water from squirt guns. We think it's a cute snapshot and very heartfelt.
Madonna added the Beastie Boys to her 'The Virgin Tour' in 1985, a year before their debut LP 'Licensed To Ill' was released. BEFORE THE TORN aren't just another metal band. Their trademark style full with energy makes them a reference for the likes of heavy music listeners.
Since the band's birth in 2004, they went through several line-up changes. However, their members never lost their consistency and have always thrived as a band, and as musicians. In 2008, they released "BURYING SAINTS", the debut album, features 12 ...songs filled with intensity and feelings, which certainly didn't left anyone holding any doubts regarding the value of this Lisbon-based band.
The heavy sound that is the calling card of BEFORE THE TORN was born from the passion their elements have for extreme music, always trying to break the boundaries of a country that is still narrow-minded towards this type of music. With great live performances, including opening acts for bands such as Converge, August Burns Red and Bleed From Within this band is in the spotlight right now, which allows them to have a very solid fan base.
In 2010, after dozens of shows, an Iberic Tour and several festivals, the band is now preparing to release their new studio album "The Serpent Smile". Produced by Vasco Ramos (More Than A Thousand Fame) at the Poison Apple Studios. "The Serpent Smile" is an album which comprises passionate screaming lyrics, brutal guitar riffs and technically advanced drumming. Altogether, this may very well be one of the greatest albums for the European music scene in 2011.

BEFORE THE TORN aren't just another metal band. Their trademark style full with energy makes them a reference for the likes of heavy music listeners.
Since the band's birth in 2004, they went through several line-up changes. However, their members never lost their consistency and have always thrived as a band, and as musicians. In 2008, they released "BURYING SAINTS", the debut album, features 12 ...songs filled with intensity and feelings, which certainly didn't left anyone holding any doubts regarding the value of this Lisbon-based band.
The heavy sound that is the calling card of BEFORE THE TORN was born from the passion their elements have for extreme music, always trying to break the boundaries of a country that is still narrow-minded towards this type of music. With great live performances, including opening acts for bands such as Converge, August Burns Red and Bleed From Within this band is in the spotlight right now, which allows them to have a very solid fan base.
In 2010, after dozens of shows, an Iberic Tour and several festivals, the band is now preparing to release their new studio album "The Serpent Smile". Produced by Vasco Ramos (More Than A Thousand Fame) at the Poison Apple Studios. "The Serpent Smile" is an album which comprises passionate screaming lyrics, brutal guitar riffs and technically advanced drumming. Altogether, this may very well be one of the greatest albums for the European music scene in 2011.

Disco has lost a legend today. Donna Summer has died at the age 63. Hey guys, you're watching ClevverMusic. Disco diva Donna Summer has passed away, due to a battle with cancer. TMZ reports that Donna passed in Key West, Florida, where she was attempting to keep her sickness private. A source that was with Donna just a few weeks ago said that Donna didn't seem sickly, and was even working on an album.
Donna is no doubt a disco icon, known for her 1970's dance hits like 'Last Dance,' and 'Hot Stuff' and then her 1980's comeback hits 'She Works Hard for the Money' and 'This Time I Know It's Real.' Donna was recognized for her hard work with 5 Grammys in her career and 12 Gold-selling singles through her sustaining career, along with dozens of other awards and nominations.
Donna also paved the way for African American female performers of her time, receiving the first MTV VMA nomination for the video of 'She Works Hard for the Money.' We send our condolences to Donna's family, friends, and fans, we will definitely miss her. Donna was married to Brooklyn Dreams vocalist Bruce Sudano and has two daughters Brooklyn and Amanda, and four grandchildren.
