After more than 20 years as a chef and restaurant owner, Laura Allen decided to embark on her second career as a massage therapist. After selling her last restaurant in 1998, and getting a job as a massage school administrator, she quickly decided that helping people feel better must be the best job in the world, and she enrolled in the school.

Allen has been nationally certified in massage and bodywork for over a decade. She is the author of the Plain & Simple Guide to Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork Examinations (2nd ed, LWW, 2009) and One Year to a Successful Massage Therapy Practice (LWW, 2008) and A Massage Therapist's Guide to Business (LWW, 2011). Allen is an Approved Provider of Continuing Education under the NCBTMB and the owner of THERA-SSAGE, regularly teaching all over the country, and is on the visiting faculty of the Obus School of Healing Therapies in Dublin, Ireland. She is also the owner of an alternative wellness clinic in Rutherfordton NC, employing over a dozen practitioners of different disciplines. Laura is a regular contributor to Massage & Bodywork Magazine, and is also a frequent blogger on the politics of the massage therapy.
