The stars hit the red carpet for the European Premiere of 'The Hunger Games'.

The Hunger Games hits theaters on March 23rd, 2012.

Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which "Tributes" must fight with one another until one survivor remains.

Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she's ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

THE HUNGER GAMES is directed by Gary Ross, with a screenplay by Gary Ross and Suzanne Collins and Billy Ray, and produced by Nina Jacobson's Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. Suzanne Collins' best-selling novel, the first in a trilogy published by Scholastic that has over 16 million copies in print in the United States alone, has developed a massive global following. It has spent more than 160 consecutive weeks/more than three consecutive years to date on The New York Times bestseller list since its publication in September 2008, and has also appeared consistently on USA Today and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists.

The Hunger Games grossed an insane $155 million, shattering records and surpassing any "Twilight" pic; overseas, and opened to $59.3 million for a worldwide total of $214.3 million.

The book to film adaptation had the third-best debut of all time and the best for any film opening outside of summer. This didn't come as a major shock as Suzanne Collins' novel is a top seller! The flick starred Jennifer Lawrence,Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth and also the biggest opening for a nonsequel. What does this mean for the actual sequal? Astronomical numbers my friends.

HEres what Lionsgate President of Marketing Tim Palen had to say about the films already monumental success "It was the perfect storm. Having the first film in a franchise to be so gigantic is amazing. We had a great book and a great director inGary Ross."

So just one more side note, you know for bragging rights---Among the past films that Hunger Games surpassed in its opening weekend were Spider-Man 3 ($151.1 million in 2007), The Twilight Saga: New Moon ($142.8 million in 2009) and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 ($138.1 million last year). Those are some major movies folks. IT will be interesting to see how the games stack up against this summers superhero flick like the avengers, the amazing spiderman and the dark knight rises!

Besides doing well at the box office, the hunger games was actually a GREAT movie! The film drew in an A on CinemaScore overall on Friday night, with those under age 25 giving it a glowing A+ and those over 25 an A-.

Josh Hutcherson, Dane Cook, Shanley Caswell and Spencer Locke star in DETENTION, a hipster, teen horror-comedy where the local students of Grizzly Lake must survive their final year of high school. Standing in their way is Cinderhella, a slasher-movie killer who has seemingly come to life and is preying on the school's student body. As the clock ticks and the bodies pile up, the likely suspects are embroiled in a race against time to stop Cinderhella and ultimately save the world... if only they can get out of detention.

Gary Ross has confirmed, he will NOT be returning to the hunger games franchise...the details coming your way.

"The Hunger Games" continues to dominate the box office, but according to the Hollywood reporter, director Gary Ross has confirmed that he's stepping away from the franchise. As we reported last week, rumors were swirling that this may happen, but until now, we had no proof...or any reason to believe that this would be true. Ross said in a statement it wasn't about money, or creative differences, it was all about the classic Hollywood excuse of timing. He said, "Despite recent speculation in the media, and after difficult but sincere consideration, I have decided not to direct 'Catching Fire.....As a writer and a director, I simply don't have the time I need to write and prep the movie I would have wanted to make because of the fixed and tight production schedule."

He added- "contrary to what has been reported, negotiations with Lionsgate have not been problematic," and that the studio has been "understanding through this difficult decision."

Obviously LIonsgate is bummed about this news but had nothing but nice things to say about Ross. At the Los Angeles press day for Detentionon Tuesday, Hunger Games star Josh Hutcherson discussed Ross'potential exit, and joked about the possibility of replacing him with Joseph Kahn, his director on the upcoming teen horror movie. Stating it would be "crazy."

Gary Ross has officially confirmed he will not be continuing on with the Hunger Games franchise, and will not be directly "Catching Fire." Speculation surrounding Ross' exit from the project has been swirling for several weeks, however as recently as last week, Lionsgate was not confirming the split. Just yesterday, Gary Ross released a statement that read QUOTE: Despite recent speculation in the media and after difficult but sincere consideration, I have decided not to direct "Catching Fire." As a writer and director, I simply don't have the time I need to write and prep the movie I would have wanted to make because of the fixed and tight production schedule.

This clarification puts the pre-existing rumors surrounding nothing more than Gary Ross wanting more money to rest. Ross did address these rumors in his official statement adding that "contrary to what has been reported, negotiations with Lionsgate have not been problematic." IN fact Ross states that Lionsgate has been "understating through this difficult decision."

Fans are up in arms over this news, and we're wondering what the cast reactions will be. Just yesterday, Josh Hutcherson referred to Ross as QUOTE "his guy" in an interview with MTV.
