American Idol Season 8 Recap
American Idol Season 8 Recap It's cheesy, predictable, and sometimes it's literally painful. But it's our favorite guilty pleasure and it's officially back. American Idol season 8 is in full swing and viewers are more addicted than ever. From what we've already seen, season 8 is set to be a sure hit. So let's talk competition. Among the best auditions so far is Joanna Pacitti from Philadelphia. She's being called a ringer but some fans don't like the fact that she's already had a record deal, which-just for record-does not disqualify her. Her competition this season will be fierce. Arianna Afsar from San Diego is just as beautiful as she is talented and then of course there is Von Smith. What can we say about Mr. Smith...yes, he was totally over the top in his audition but if he can tone things down a bit, he may be a bigtime contender. Other idol hopefuls to watch include Lil Rounds, Adam Lambert and Cody Sheldon. AND As much as we enjoy praising Idol contestants, I'd be lying if I said it wasn't just as fun to laugh at the more horrifying performances. Tiffany Shedd's audition was less than impressive. So much so in fact that Simon actually called her a donkey. Safe to say she wasn't pleased with the comment and left in tears. Then there was Mark Mudd, who says he almost died in five different car accidents. He was so terrible that Paula and Kara laughed at him. Mark wasn't too pleased with his reception and after being rejected he threatened the judges by telling them to be careful. And then there was Katrina Darrell who thought that appearing in nothing but a two piece would make her a show favorite. Her vocals weren't praised, but she was voted through by Simon and Randy. The ladies gave her two thumbs down and Kara even said that next time she should just show up naked. If her lack of clothing wasn't enough, Darrell who had promised to make out with Ryan Seacrest if she got through made good on her word, igniting shock and gag reflexes across the country. Bikini swimsuits aren't the only new thing on this season's show. Viewers are tuning in to check out new judge Kara DioGuardi. DioGuardi describes herself as opinionated, feisty and strong, and she's already proving that she's not afraid to say what she's thinking or start a cat fight with Simon Cowell. And while you can definetely expect to see more spats between those two, fan favorite Paula Abdul is singing her praises. Abdul says that she and DioGuardi are great friends and totally drama-free. I'm Dana Ward in Beverly Hills and we've got some fabulous GG news. It seems that Miss Hilary Duff will join the ranks on the oh-so-popular, Gossip Girl. According to reports, the singer-slash-actress will take-on a multi-episode arc as the character of Olivia Burke. This newbie can definitely rival the richie-rich lifestyle rocked by the solid cast, as Olivia is a movie star who's attending NYU as a freshman to experience a quote-unquote 'normal college life'. Duff's character will apparently be roomies with Vanessa (Jessica Szohr) and might even have some hot scenes with Dan, played by Penn Badgley, who doesn't even recognize that Oliva is a the celeb. As far as real-life Hilary goes, she's a self-described fan of the show, naming Chuck as her all-time favorite character. This 3rd season of Gossip Girl premieres September 14th... And sorry guys, but you'll just have to WAIT to get a glance at Duff in her new role, as she doesn't enter the scene until Episode 4. Here's the Q: Do you like Hilary as a Gossip Girl addition or is she just not in the popular group? What I'm wondering about - and kinda expecting a little bit - is a little singing duel between Hilary and newer-to-the-music-world Leighton Meester and Taylor Momsen. What do you think? Before we wrap it up, we gotta add that Joanna Garcia - you know her from Reba as well as from Privileged - is also signed on for 4 episodes of GG. She'll be playing Bree Buckley, a southern belle with a bit of conservative, beauty queen ways that wind up charming Chace Crawford aka Nate.
