Mortal Instruments goes into production and director herald Zwart known for agent cody banks and pink panther 2 is at the helm! Mortal Instruments is the adaptation of Cassandra Clare's YA fantasy novel.

Lily Collins remains attached to star as young woman who discovers she is the descendant of a line of secret cadre of half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect the world from demons. And producer Robert Kulzer, agrees she is perfect for the role...he said, "Fans and the filmmakers agree: "Lily Collins is the perfect Clary.....Harald Zwart really understands the visuals and heart of The Mortal Instruments. That was crucial to us. Of course, having Cassandra Clare's support throughout and collaborating with her on this project has been especially rewarding."

Last month fans of the novel went into a frenzy when it was reported that Screen Gems had dropped the project, but now it appears the movie is going full steam ahead and principal photography is set to begin august 15th in Toronto!

Sony sets a release date for The Mortal Instruments and we have the details!

After having spent the last year stalled in development, a big screen adaptation of Cassandra Clare's New York Times best-selling, young adult, fantasy-adventure literature series, The Mortal Instruments, is making some serious progress!

Just over the past several weeks, the project has officially snagged a new director in Harald Zwart known for The Karate Kid, has been locked down to begin production later this summer -- and now, has an official U.S. theatrical release date of August 23, 2013.

The story centers around when Clary Fray (played by lily Collins) mom is attacked and taken from their home in New York City by some creature, clary finds out truths about her past and bloodline on her quest to get her back, that changes her entire life.
