Marc Jacobs taks Vuitton for a ride

STORY: Designer Marc Jacobs went full steam ahead on the last day of the Pret-A-Porter shows in Paris with a train rolling onto the catwalk.
Ever the romantic and paying homage to Louis Vuitton's heritage of travel with its ubiquitous monogrammed luggage, Jacobs took the audience on a historical journey through fantasy, time and proportion.
Jacobs intentionally played with proportions, elongating the silhouette into an exaggerated A-line, with tall hats and long coats adding length to the body. And with a charming finishing touch of short porters carrying the models' oversized Louis Vuitton bags, only adding to the tallness of the silhouette.
Sparkles, jewels and furs added to the further richness of the clothes, which were developed and applied by expert craftsmen.
Bags also took their cue from the past with handbags larger than life and hat boxes, vanity cases, and weekend bags making their way back into the accessories line.
"I think it's such a feminine line without being that vulgar line of tits, ass and waist, so it just defines at a high waist and gently flares over the hip," said Jacobs.
The American designer's global celebrity cliental came out in droves for the show. From American actress Sarah Jessica Parker and French actress Catherine Deneuve. To Chinese actresses Fan Bing Bing and Ni Ni, who gave the show a thumbs up.
The French label will be marking its 15th anniversary with Jacobs at the helm with an exhibition at the Louvre, also the setting of the Vuitton shows every season.
A party will take place on Wednesday previewing the exhibit, which is set to open on Friday (March 9).
