Batman vs. Avengers Box Office Battle
http://bit.ly/clevvermovies - Click to Subscribe! http://Facebook.com/ClevverMovies - Become a Fan! http://Twitter.com/ClevverMovies - Follow Us! Two titans are clashing at the box office next summer, and I'm not talking about Wrath of the titans. Hey movie buffs Joshua Ovenshire here filling in for Tatiana Carrier with Clevver movies. Today I want to take a closer look at who I think is going to win the box office next summer. Easily the two most anticipated movies next year are The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises. Both will be highly successful, but who is going to bring in the most money during that opening weekend. Now by no means is this a Marvel vs DC kinda thing. I don't believe in that. Both are great franchises, there will never be any reason to pick sides, I just want to look at some of the facts. So let's size up these two behemoths. Two better compare how they'll do in the future, let's see how they did in the past first. Starting with 2008's The Dark Knight, this movie dominated the box office that year. Opening weekend it made $158.4 million dollars outing Spider-man three for the highest grossing weekend release. It actually held this record all the way up to this year when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt 2 beat it out with $169 million. Well played muggles... But Batman had A LOT going for it. It was the last big release during it's summer and no big movies to compete with it the same weekend. Knowing that nothing else big is coming out for a few weeks actually does drive more viewers into the theatres for one last hoorah and $20 worth of popcorn and soda. And let's also not forget the passing of Heith Ledger. As much of a loss as this was, this greatly influenced some foot traffic to the movie. It also helps that Ledger's rendition of The Joker was nothing less than phenomenal. So you take all this in and add what turned out to be an amazing movie, and you get numbers that will impress anyone. Then there is The Avengers. One thing Marvel has always had over DC was great marketing. And this movie is the product of a FIVE year campaign. Do you remember how excited you got back at the end of the Iron Man credits and Samuel L. Jackson shows up saying he's going to put together a "team"? I still remember the goosebumps I got. Then for the next four years every marvel superhero movie teased us a bit more at the end of each movie. In fact, MARVEL IS THE REASON WE ALL STAY AT THE END OF THE MOVIE CREDITS of any movie.....just in case. But going back to those box office charts, when it came to best weekends, the only Avenger to get close to Batman was Iron Man 2 back in 2010. It brought in $128 million landing it at number seven. Even if you look at this year's Avengers, Thor and Captain America, both brought in only $65 million. Even combined they couldn't topple the Dark Knight's, at the time, number one spot. Which brings us to the summer of 2012. Both movies have prime release dates. Avengers being the first movie of the summer, and The Dark Knight Rises being the LAST of the summer. As big of a Batman fan I am though, it's hard to beat out an ensemble cast like The Avengers. Look at New Year's Eve, that movie was reviewed horribly by critics and audiences but continues to make money because of a strong ensemble cast. So personally, I do think The Avengers will take the box office, even if the heroes on there own couldn't rack up that high of an income. So what do you guys think of all this? Leave your comments below and don't forget to subscribe. Also you can hit us up on twitter @clevvermovies and we'll get back to each one of you. But before, I wrap this up, again, this is not a picking sides debate. Both movies will do amazingly, and you all should watch both! Because when Heroes go head to head...the real winners are us. The more you know...I'm Joshua Ovenshire with Clevver Movies. See you next time.
'The Avengers' Captain America vs Thor - Fanboy Faceoff

Hey Fanboys, I'm Tatiana Carrier and this is Fanboy Faceoff, the show that pits your favorite comic book, sci-fi, fantasy and horror characters in a battle to the death...okay not to the death, but in a battle to be the ultimate Fanboy Superstar. Each week we'll pick two characters to faceoff and the ultimate winner will be chosen by you, our experts.

This week, we have a big showdown between two of Marvel's most popular characters - Captain America and Thor. It was only a mere second of footage, but one of the most memorable and anticipated moments revealed in The Avengers trailer was the promise of a battle between these two powerhouses. We know it will probably only be a minor spat as they will eventually come together as one to battle Loki and his army of Skrulls...Redacted...Or whatever they end up being. Anyway, it got us thinking. Who would come out on top in a battle between these two behemoths? Super soldier vs. god. Hammer vs shield.

This isn't the first time these two heroes have battled it out. Last year, they went head-to-head for summer box office supremacy with the release of their two films. It was a pretty close battle from the start with both films bringing in $65 million for their opening weekends. It was also pretty close for both film's US totals with Thor bringing in $181 million and Captain America managing a respectable $171 million. The figures for the worldwide box office weren't so close, as Thor brought in $446 million to Captain America's $366. It kind of makes sense though. He is Captain AMERICA after all and not Captain World. Another big win for Thor in this category is the fact that a sequel has already been set for November 15th, 2013. Despite rumors that a Captain America sequel is on the way, nothing yet has been confirmed.

So Thor wins the box office round, but what about The Avengers movie? It's been said that the film will be told through Captain America's perspective, so we're anticipating lots of screentime for Steve Rogers. On the other hand, the main villain The Avengers will be facing in this go-round will be Thor's brother, Loki. No doubt Thor will be getting lots of screentime as well in order to see how this sibling rivalry plays out. I think this round is too close to call and we'll have to wait to see how things play out on screen.
So how do we determine a winner? To the stats!

If looks alone were enough, Thor would be the clear winner, but he's also got the whole immortal god thing going for him. He's practically invulnerable, he possess superhuman speed, agility and reflexes and has stamina that allows him to battle for days on end. If he does manage to get wounded, he has the ability to regenerate and fix himself up faster than you can say, "nice ASSgardian!" Of course, one of his greatest assets is the mighty mystical hammer that packs a punch big enough to take down an army of Frost Giants. The hammer also helps to focus Thor's power to command the weather. As far as weaknesses, Thor really doesn't have any. His pride and ego lead him to being banished to Earth as a mortal, but he was able to overcome that in the first film, so we're assuming it won't be much of an issue in The Avengers. We'll just have to wait and see if he can play nice with the other superheroes.

Like Thor, Captain America possesses superhuman strength, speed, agility and endurance. He also has a handy weapon in his indestructible shield that he uses for both defense and offense as a projectile he can hurl at his enemies. Also like Thor, Captain America really has no weaknesses, but unlike Thor, he is human and therefore can be killed. He is however, one of the only humans ever to be able to wield Thor's mighty hammer, so if he actually got his hands on it, a hammer/shield combo could be just what he needs to take down the God of Thunder.

What do you think fanboys? The power is now in your hands. Will it be Thor or Captain America who triumphs in this Faceoff? Leave your comments below or tweet us your pick @ClevverMovies using the hashtag #CMFF. Until next time, I'm Tatiana Carrier signing off.

Hey Avengers fans, I'm Tatiana Carrier and today we're breaking down the latest trailer from the upcoming superhero ensemble. We got a taste of Loki's Army in the trailer that ran during the Super Bowl and now we're getting a better look at how the team comes together in the latest and most likely final trailer before the film hits theaters May 4th. So what are we waiting for, let's roll the trailer!

0:22 We're seeing a lot of the same shots that we saw during the Super Bowl spot, but now we're getting a better sense of the destruction being unleashed on the city and the military's response.

0:44 Come on, do they really think that will be enough to take down the Hulk? We're assuming he comes willingly, otherwise, these guys are toast!

1:11 This is one of the most interesting parts of the trailer. We got a glimpse of a battle between Thor and Captain America during the Super Bowl trailer and now we see Iron Man gets in on the action. Are Captain America and Iron Man sent to recruit Thor into S.H.I.E.L.D. and a battle ensues or could this just be some sort of training mission?

1:18 From the glimpse of the wrist strap, we're guessing Black Widow is battling Hawkeye. It could be just a training session, but we're thinking Loki uses mind control on Hawkeye to help him escape the Avengers base.

1:28 Doesn't Loki look dapper in his suit. It looks like he could be at some government building, perhaps? Maybe working his mind control on the President...

1:29 ...and perhaps this crowd of people? Though some look frightened while other just look dazed.

1:32 We're guessing that Hulk too, gets under the influence of Loki's mind control and is used to help him escape. This would give context to Bruce Banner saying they aren't a team, they are a timebomb. If Loki and control their minds, what hope do they have against him?

1:38 Think back to when Nick Fury says to Loki, "you've made me very, very desperate." It looked like Loki was behind some kind of glass. We're guessing Loki is able to trick his brother into the glass prison and escape, hence Thor's anger here.

1:41 If you look closely, you can see Hawkeye standing on the building to the right. Now we know how he ends up falling.

1:55 This was perhaps one of the best scenes in the entire trailer. It gives a sense that Hulk will definitely be an integral part of the team and not just all about rage and destruction.

2:22 One of the biggest reveals of the trailer is this behemoth going after Iron Man. We're guessing this is the long-rumored "leviathon", but what exactly it is, we're not sure. It has teeth, so we're assuming it's some kind of creature, but it's appearance resembles a quick shot from the Super Bowl spot that shows several of Loki's Army jumping from it. So we're thinking it also acts as a sort of spaceship for the army as well.

Well, there you have it, our breakdown of the latest and most likely final Avengers trailer. How do you think this trailer compares to the others? Is it getting you more excited for the May 4th release or do you think they should have shown more? Let us know in the comments section and be sure to hit subscribe to stay up to date on all the latest movie news.
Hulk vs. Thing: Fanboy Faceoff

What happens when two behemoths go head-to-head? You get the latest Fanboy Faceoff that's what! Today's faceoff is between two of Marvel's biggest characters, and we do mean big. We're talking about non other than the Hulk and the Thing. This isn't the first time these two have battled as there have been many a battle between them in the Marvel comic universe. It's always an event, so let's see why.

These two have a lot in common and the most notable is their size. They each possess superhuman strength, speed, stamina and durability. Both were born normal men and were changed into their respective forms due to accidents with Bruce Banner becoming the Hulk due to gamma radiation and Ben Grimm becoming the Thing from exposure of cosmic radiation. Despite these similarities, there is one notable difference between these two. While Banner changes into the monstrous Hulk when angered and spends most of his life in human form, Grimm's tranformation into the Thing is a permanent.

Another similarity between these two is that each have appeared in big budget films that have had less than stellar results. The Hulk hit the big screen in 2003 and again in 2008 bringing in $487 million worldwide. The Thing appeared in the two Fantastic Four films that hit theaters in 2005 and 2007. The two films did better than Hulk, bringing in a total of $607 million worldwide. The Hulk's box office take should significantly improve when The Avengers hits theaters this summer. Fox has announced plans to reboot The Fantastic Four, but no official release date has been set.

So how would these two fair in a one-on-one fight? The Hulk is one of the toughest comic book character ever and his power only increases as his anger increases. As for weaknesses, the Hulk has few, with his lack of intelligence being the most notable. Though Bruce Banner has genius level intellect, Hulk does not. With his power completely dependent on rage, Hulk has very little concern about destroying whatever gets in his way.

The Thing, on the other hand retains the intellect and emotions of Ben Grimm and would be conscious of the destruction these two battling would ultimately cause. Would this be the Thing's downfall against Hulk? On the flip side, the Thing doesn't sacrifice intelligence for strength. Could intellect be just what Thing needs to take down the Hulk or would brute strength be the only factor in this match?

The decision is now in your hands. Which of these two mighty forces do you think will be victorious in this week's Fanboy Faceoff? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @ClevverMovies with the hashtag #CMFF. I'm Tatiana Carrier, thanks for watching.

Last week's Fanboy Faceoff was all about the muscle with Hulk taking on Thing in a no-holds barred fight for your vote and we have the results!

It was a battle of epic proportions with size and strength being a key factor. Hulk was definitely the favorite to win in that category with MrCjdyo9 saying, "We all have seen Hulk crush rocks so what's to say he won't do the same to The Thing and being realistic it would end up with Thing getting HULK SMASHED!!!"

Another factor in Hulk's favor is his immense rage power. PROGAM4R thought that is exactly the thing that would give Hulk the advantage commenting, "[Hulk is] stronger physically and will only get stronger if The Thing is beating him. Hulk will rage constantly, which will make him stronger."

The battle wasn't completely one-sided with Thing getting some support. One advantage some thought Thing had over Hulk was his intellect with LockedHearts08 saying, "Thing would outsmart Hulk and destroy him."

TheMan75110 went so far as to pick a possible strategy for Thing commenting, "The Thing could possibly win only because of his intelligence and learn that Hulk gets stronger each time he gets angrier and stop fighting with the Hulk until he was calm."

With plenty of support for both of these behemoths, it was a very close race...Okay, fine, it wasn't close at all. The winner with over 95 percent of the votes was hands down Hulk. We all saw that coming, right? Just goes to show you, when you hear "Hulk Smash" the best thing to do is just get out of his way!

So now we know Thing has no chance up against Hulk, the question is, who do you think could take down the green monster? Let us know in the comment section and while you're there, tell us which faceoff you'd like to see next week? In honor of The Avengers release, we've got two Joss Whedon inspired faceoffs to choose from. Would you like to see Whedon's Buffy Summers take on his Avenger's lethal beauty Black Widow? Or perhaps a sci-fi battle between Whedon's Malcolm Reynolds, captain of the Serenity and Han Solo, captain of the Millennium Falcon? The choice is yours. Until then, I'm Tatiana Carrier. Hulk Smash!

You asked for it so we're bringing it to you! This Fanboy Faceoff is pitting two of the biggest comic book franchises ever against one another - The Avengers vs. The X-Men!

The Avengers are breaking box office records across the globe, but they weren't the first superhero team to grace the silver screen. Way back in 2000, the long awaited X-Men film hit theaters and was an instant hit among fans and critics alike. Lead by Wolverine, the first X-Men film brought in $294 million worldwide and spawned two sequels, a spinoff and a prequel. The box office total for all the X-Men films is $1.5 billion and $1.9 billion if you include X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The franchise continues to grow stronger with sequels to X-Men: First Class and Wolverine coming in the next couple years.

The new kids on the block as far as movies go, The Avengers has quickly become one of the most successful franchises of all time. The seeds for the superhero ensemble were started back in 2008 with Iron Man. The five films leading up to The Avengers grossed a whopping $2.3 billion worldwide with The Avengers becoming one of only eleven films ever to cross the billion dollar mark in only 19 days.

The Avengers and X-Men both debuted in September 1963 and evolved as a response to the popularity of DC Comics' Justice League of America. The two powerhouses are currently facing off in a limited comic book crossover but which team do you think would prevail in an onscreen battle of these behemoths? Compared to the X-Men, the Avengers big screen team is pretty small, consisting of only four main heroes along with S.H.I.E.L.D. members Hawkeye, Black Widow and to a lesser extent Nick Fury. Though small, the team does consist of a demigod, a super soldier, the powerful Iron Man and of course they have a Hulk. Quite possibly one of the most powerful superheroes of all time.

The X-Men are no slouches though, with a roster that includes the mighty Wolverine whose adamantium skeleton and highly resilient body could definitely give Hulk a run for his money. Other members include Storm, who like Thor, has the power to manipulate the weather, Cyclops, whose optic blast could be a devastating foe against Iron Man's repulsor rays and Rogue, who has the ability to absorb the powers of others. Other members include the powerful Jean Grey, Beast, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Iceman, Kitty Pryde, Angel and of course Professor Xavier, the leader of the X-Men, just to name a few.

So do you think the overwhelming number and powers of the X-Men have what it takes to bring The Avengers to their knees? If so, which Avenger from the comics not seen in the film do you think could help turn the tide? Let us know in the comments or tweet us @ClevverMovies with the hashtag #CMFF. The ultimate winner of this superpowered faceoff is completely up to you, so be sure to let your voice be heard. I'm Tatiana Carrier, thanks for tuning in!
